After the opening round of the 2018 Premiership Season, the Tribunal will already sit down on Tuesday, March 27 to overlook a charge contested by Adelaide Crows midfield-forward Richard Douglas. The incident occurred on Friday, March 23 during the clash between Essendon and the Adelaide Crows at Etihad Stadium. Douglas was involved in rough conduct against Zac Merrett during the first quarter which saw Merrett sit out the remainder of the match with a concussion. The MRP assessed the incident as "careless conduct with medium impact to the head". Douglas received a one-match sanction, but will challenge the incident on Tuesday night.
Charges laid after round 1: Essendon midfielder Brendon Goddard was charged with making careless contact against umpire Ray Chamberlain during the third quarter of the clash between Essendon and the Adelaide Crows last Friday night. Goddard received a $1000 sanction and accepted the charge. Brisbane Lions midfielder Mitch Robinson was charged with striking St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross during the clash between St Kilda and the Brisbane Lions on Saturday, March 24 at Etihad Stadium, in the fourth quarter. Robinson received a one-match sanction after the MRP assessed the incident as "intentional conduct with low impact to the head". The incident will not go before the Tribunal. Collingwood key forward Mason Cox was charged with striking Hawthorn defender Daniel Howe during the clash between Hawthorn and Collingwood on Saturday, March 24 at the MCG, in the third quarter. Cox received a one-match sanction after the MRP assessed the incident as "intentional conduct with low impact to the head". The incident will not go before the Tribunal. Collingwood defender Brayden Maynard was also charged after staging during the fourth quarter of the match stated above. A first offence for staging is a $1500 sanction, but an early plea will allow Maynard to accept a $1000 sanction.
