Gold Coast Suns veteran Matt Rosa has announced his retirement due to an ongoing syndesmosis injury, which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Rosa announced his retirement to his Suns teammates on Tuesday morning, and he announced the news to his fans via a letter that was posted on the club’s website. “Unfortunately, my body has been telling me for some time, that it can no longer cope with the demands of the game at the highest level,” the letter read. “The game has given myself, my family and friends so much enjoyment over the journey and I have been so fortunate to live my childhood dream for 14 years.” Rosa played 168 games for the West Coast Eagles and then moved to the Suns at the end of the 2015 season.

Restricted free-agent Tom Lynch has had his co-captaincy role stripped, after he confirmed to the Gold Coast Suns and his teammates that he will be making his move to Victoria.
Lynch returned from Melbourne after undergoing knee surgery. While in Victoria, Lynch had meetings with several clubs. It is believed Richmond, Collingwood and Hawthorn are the front-runners for the star forward. It's a matter of which club Lynch will ultimately choose. Suns CEO Mark Evans issued a statement which confirmed Lynch's request to leave the club at the end of the season. "Upon our request, Tom Lynch has advised the club of his desire to exercise his rights as a Restricted Free Agent during October's Free Agency Period," the statement read. "We've been in constant dialogue with Tom and his management throughout the year, early last month we had indications that the decision was heading this way and we asked Tom to give us a decision when he returned to the club. "He returned to the Gold Coast after surgery today and informed us and the playing group of his intent. We accept that the Free Agency system provides this option for Tom and will move forward with the best interests of the club at heart. "I can confirm that the Board, senior members of the of our Football Department and the Player Leadership Group share a view that Tom should relinquish his captaincy of the club and therefore his position has been rescinded. "The club will continue to assist Tom with his rehabilitation from injury, however he won't be part part of the football program for the remainder of the season." Lynch has played 131 games for the Suns, kicking 254 goals, winning two best and fairests in 2015 and 2016, and was named in the All Australian team of 2016. |
