Collingwood player Jordan De Goey has been suspended and fined after lying to the football club about the reason for breaking his hand. De Goey has been fined $5000 and banned for three matches. The suspension only applies once he recovers from the injury.
The young Pie first told Collingwood that the cause of his broken hand was from playing with his dog. He stated that he threw a toy and and hit his hand on a door handle. The real cause behind the injury is that he broke his hand in an incident at a bar in St Kilda. It is expected to be a "long-time" before De Goey earns back the respect of the club and his teammates, states Magpies football manager, Geoff Walsh. He said that coach Nathan Buckley is "deeply, deeply affected" by the incident. "We're deeply embarrassed, we're really sorry that Jordan would feel that he would have to concoct a story". Once his hand injury is healed, De Goey will be available for VFL selection and will also have to complete 10 weeks of community service.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has been left "profoundly disappointed" following the news that the Gabba would be deemed unsafe to play on after Adele concerts on March 4 and 5.
The Brisbane Lions, who had earned the right to play the AFLW grand final at their home ground, have been forced to play the game at Metricon Stadium against the Adelaide Crows. This was due to the fact that, following the two Adele concerts, the centre-wicket area on the ground was re-sowed ahead of the first Ashes Test, which isn't until the middle of November. Lions CEO Greg Swann was left "dumbfounded" over the decision by head curator of the Gabba, Kevin Mitchell. Lions fans have been encouraged to make the trip to the Gold Coast and support their team in the grand final, despite the change in venue. The game will begin at 1pm AEST, and will be the curtain-raiser for the clash between Gold Coast and the Brisbane Lions at 7:05pm. Despite concerns that the round two clash between the Brisbane Lions and Essendon would be jeopardised, the Gabba has been given the all clear to host the game. The Lions face Essendon on Saturday, April 1 at 7:25pm. Welcome to the Footy Factory! This is a blog that brings you all the latest news in the AFL, no matter what team you barrack for.
