AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has been left "profoundly disappointed" following the news that the Gabba would be deemed unsafe to play on after Adele concerts on March 4 and 5.
The Brisbane Lions, who had earned the right to play the AFLW grand final at their home ground, have been forced to play the game at Metricon Stadium against the Adelaide Crows. This was due to the fact that, following the two Adele concerts, the centre-wicket area on the ground was re-sowed ahead of the first Ashes Test, which isn't until the middle of November. Lions CEO Greg Swann was left "dumbfounded" over the decision by head curator of the Gabba, Kevin Mitchell. Lions fans have been encouraged to make the trip to the Gold Coast and support their team in the grand final, despite the change in venue. The game will begin at 1pm AEST, and will be the curtain-raiser for the clash between Gold Coast and the Brisbane Lions at 7:05pm. Despite concerns that the round two clash between the Brisbane Lions and Essendon would be jeopardised, the Gabba has been given the all clear to host the game. The Lions face Essendon on Saturday, April 1 at 7:25pm.
