Collingwood player Jordan De Goey has been suspended and fined after lying to the football club about the reason for breaking his hand. De Goey has been fined $5000 and banned for three matches. The suspension only applies once he recovers from the injury.
The young Pie first told Collingwood that the cause of his broken hand was from playing with his dog. He stated that he threw a toy and and hit his hand on a door handle. The real cause behind the injury is that he broke his hand in an incident at a bar in St Kilda. It is expected to be a "long-time" before De Goey earns back the respect of the club and his teammates, states Magpies football manager, Geoff Walsh. He said that coach Nathan Buckley is "deeply, deeply affected" by the incident. "We're deeply embarrassed, we're really sorry that Jordan would feel that he would have to concoct a story". Once his hand injury is healed, De Goey will be available for VFL selection and will also have to complete 10 weeks of community service.
