The AFLPA 22under22 has been named for 2018, with Western Bulldogs star midfielder Marcus Bontempelli the first player to make the team for five consecutive years. Bontempelli was also named as the captain for the side, with Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver named as the vice-captain. The 22under22 is the only AFL award to be voted on by members of the public, and it was the public that took particular interest in players from Brisbane, Collingwood, Essendon and Melbourne which all had three players each in the side. Seven clubs were unlucky not to have one of their players in the team which were Geelong, the Gold Coast Suns, the GWS Giants, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and the West Coast Eagles.
